CHULALONGKORN UNIVERSITY CENTENARY PARK The Urban Forest “The Urban Green Ecosystem Model”. This new downtown public park covering a total area of 28 rai (44,800 sq.m.) was designed to accommodate various types of activity and also includes green zone to promote mutual learning among university students and the community as well as among human and nature along the green zone line shown in the Master Plan of the University. To highlight the concept of “Urban Forest”, the park is made up of diverse native plants and florae including the key highlight of the park like Rain Tree which is the symbol of Chulalongkorn University. In addition to its plant varieties, the park also consists of Multi-Purpose Building for organizing exhibitions and activities, Learning Zone which comprises of different styles of classrooms, Construct Wetland and Rainwater Reservoir which is located at the front for reserving rainwater. This park is a model for the urban public park and urban water detention area.

Construct Wetland was built for the purposes of supporting the ecosystem and recreation. It acts as water circulation system for the park and is the heart of empty space design. It uses bioengineering system for water treatment and creating urban ecosystem. Construct Wetland in various sections of the park plays a vital role in collecting rainwater for plants watering and acts as water detention area for the city.

Multi-Purpose Building comes with a design that reflects the “Royal Conferment of Land to Chulalongkorn University for Return of Benefits to Society”. Its architectural design and features perfectly blend in with the surrounding landscape and resemble a Gateway. Based on the paradigm of natural science, it is the landmark for Chulalongkorn University Centenary Park and harmoniously connects with the Green Roof.

Porous Park acts as an urban sponge. Its morphological feature is designed with a slope to help increase water permeability and storing rainwater during rainy season for use during the dry season. The park is also made up of Retention Pond and Detention Pond for trapping and delaying rainwater before releasing into public waterway. Porous Park can detain water within the area by approximately 3-4 hours.

Chulalongkorn University aims to create and develop quality graduates, addressing social problems and improving quality of life to urban community as a way to give back to society. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Chulalongkorn University and in remembrance of King Rama V and King Rama VI, the founders of Chulalongkorn University, for their legacy which has benefited the overall nation for more than a century and continuously expanding like these big East Indian Walnut Trees of which their roots will further deepen into the ground and extend its shade to those living under its protection.

EEC has been involved in designing the engineering system for Chulalongkorn University Centenary Park which mainly cover works relating to infrastructure utilities and MEP system in various buildings such as power supply system, water supply system for use and consumption, water quality treatment system, rainwater drainage system, and project drainage system, fire protection system, air-conditioning and ventilation system in the building section.
